The short answer
What you need to know
Choose hand wash specified for your dispenser and intended use. Confirm whether you need a pump bottle, bulk refill or proprietary cartridge; compare volume, packing and label instructions before ordering.

Before you buy
- Match the refill to the dispenser instructions.
- Keep volume and carton quantity separate.
- Record batch and expiry information when provided.
Identify the refill format first
List the dispensers in service and the product they currently use. Some purchases replace a whole pump bottle, while others replenish a refillable unit or use a proprietary cartridge. A large container is not automatically compatible with every system.
Ask the supplier to identify the exact product format. Keep the dispenser manufacturer's instructions available, especially if changing between product types. Do not assume that liquid and foam products can be swapped in the same pump.
Compare the delivered cost per volume
For comparable products, divide the delivered price by the total litres supplied. A carton of twelve 500 ml bottles contains six litres. A quote for one five-litre container is a different quantity even if both are called a pack.
Volume alone is not a prediction of how long a product will last. Dispensed quantity and actual site use affect consumption. Record how much the team issues over normal operating weeks and use that history to forecast the next order.
Keep product information with the order
Read the label for intended use, storage directions and any expiry information. Ask for product documentation where your organization needs it. Choose products against the facility's requirements rather than unsupported claims in an advertisement.
Follow the product and dispenser instructions for use and refilling. This buying guide does not replace those instructions or establish infection-control suitability for clinical areas.
Plan storage and reordering
Count usable unopened stock and note how much is already at each dispenser station. Keep the approved product name on the stock sheet so an urgent purchase does not introduce an unapproved replacement.
Confirm the delivery date, bottle or container count and any proposed alternatives before placing the order. On arrival, check seals and labels, and record discrepancies before distributing the stock.
- Dispenser model and refill format
- Container volume and units per carton
- Intended-use and storage instructions
- Batch or expiry details when provided
- Current availability and delivery terms

Common buying questions
Can I choose hand wash just by price per litre?
Use that calculation only for comparable products. Check dispenser compatibility and intended use first.
How much hand wash does an office need each month?
Use recorded consumption and delivery lead time. Staff counts alone do not establish a reliable universal quantity.
