The short answer
What you need to know
Buy multifold towels for a compatible folded-towel dispenser and roll towels for a compatible roll system. Compare refill specifications and cost using the same basis; towels per pack and metres per roll are different measurements.

Before you buy
- Identify the installed dispensing system.
- Ask for folded dimensions or roll measurements.
- Trial a refill before committing to bulk cartons.
Start with the dispensing system
A folded-towel pack and a roll are different refill formats. Record the installed model instead of asking simply for hand towels. For example, Tork identifies its Xpress multifold product 600297 with the H2 system. That manufacturer-specific code is a compatibility reference, not a universal name for every folded towel.
For a different brand or unbranded dispenser, request its specification or test the proposed refill. A pack that fits inside the case may still fail to feed correctly. Source details for the Tork example are linked below.
Make a practical format comparison
A folded system is replenished with packs; a roll system is replenished with rolls. Ask the facilities team which routine is workable and whether storage and access constrain the choice. Avoid assuming every roll unit is automatic or every folded unit works the same way.
| Record | Folded towel | Roll towel |
|---|---|---|
| Compatibility | Folded size, fold and system | Core, width, diameter and system |
| Quantity | Finished towels per pack | Length or stated sheet count |
| Carton packing | Packs per carton | Rolls per carton |
| Fit check | Feed and removal | Mounting and dispensing |
Compare cost using observed use
For folded towels, divide the delivered carton cost by the confirmed total towels. For rolls, compare length or the manufacturer's stated usable sheets when supplied. Do not convert metres to sheets without knowing the cut length.
To compare unlike systems, record refills consumed over comparable operating periods. Keep traffic and opening hours in mind. This gives a site-specific purchasing estimate without making unsupported claims about how much either format saves.
Plan the changeover if hardware changes
Before switching, list every dispenser and identify which units stay in service. Separate old and new refill stock, and label both. Confirm availability of replacement refills before committing to hardware.
Ask the supplier for a current quote with the refill code, dimensions and packing. Arrange a small fit check when compatibility is uncertain, then set the approved item on your repeat order list.

Common buying questions
Can a kitchen roll be used in a washroom dispenser?
Do not assume compatibility. Check the intended use, dimensions and the dispenser maker’s refill requirements.
Are all multifold towels the same size?
No. Check folded dimensions, format and the required system before ordering.
