The short answer
What you need to know
Choose toilet rolls that match your dispenser first. Then compare usable roll length, refill frequency and delivered cost. A jumbo roll needs a suitable holder; the word jumbo is not a universal dimension.

Before you buy
- Record core, width and outer diameter.
- Compare length where the specification provides it.
- Plan refills around actual site traffic.
Measure the dispenser before the roll
Record the dispenser brand or model and the dimensions of a refill that already works. Important measurements include roll width, core opening and maximum outer diameter. Ask for a compatibility confirmation if the proposed product differs.
Do not use a product name such as jumbo or maxi as a measurement. Suppliers can use similar names for different products, and a kitchen towel roll is not automatically a toilet roll just because it is large.
Compare more than the number of rolls
A carton with fewer rolls can still contain more paper. Where lengths are available, multiply metres per roll by rolls per carton and compare products of similar width and specification. When the length is missing, ask before estimating value.
For example, six rolls of 200 metres contain 1,200 metres, while twelve rolls of 80 metres contain 960 metres. These are hypothetical packing examples. They do not establish which product performs better or fits your holder.
Include the refill routine in your decision
A high-traffic washroom may benefit from a refill format that lasts between planned checks, provided the dispenser fits the site. Smaller facilities may prefer to retain existing holders and a simpler stock list. Count actual roll changes for a normal week before buying new hardware.
If replacing dispensers, include hardware cost, refill availability and access for the team that services them. Keep enough approved stock to cover the changeover, rather than discarding usable rolls that fit existing units.
Confirm the order in writing
State the dispenser model, paper specification and packing on the order. At receiving, check labels against the agreed variant before distributing rolls around the building.
- Dispenser model or measurement photos
- Roll width, core and outside diameter
- Length or usable sheet count
- Rolls per carton
- Delivery timing and substitution approval
A few more answers
Common buying questions
Will any jumbo roll fit a jumbo dispenser?
No. Confirm the core, width and outside diameter against the specific dispenser.
Is a longer roll always the better purchase?
Only if it fits and suits the facility. Compare specification, delivered cost, stock availability and how staff refill the dispenser.
